A downloadable Campaign Toolkit

The shadow war is eternal. In all corners of the earth, exorcists work tirelessly to defend humanity against the SIN threat, giving their lives to the cause so the stain can finally be wiped away. Amongst them, it exists a rumor. A far off destination exorcists can be sent, sometimes described as a punishment, sometimes described as a reward. Division X, they call it, a special unit often mentioned in tucked away documents.

Some dream of being called to it, saying exorcists are treated much more fairly there, having the freedom to do as they please. Others are cautious, strict in their actions so they stay away from anything related to the dreaded X present in those files. I wouldn't trust either of those, soldier. The place is definitely different than your usual legion facility. But your conclusions should be your own, so why not accept it? Dive deep, find out for yourself what waits for you at Division X.

Division X is a fan-made campaign toolkit by gaa_txt for the tabletop roleplaying game CAIN made by Tom Bloom. It introduces new and optional rules for your game, expanding the scope of the system beyond the hunts the exorcists must go on. Inside you will find rules for:

  • Handler Origins. Each division is trained and supervised by a handler, but their origin can be as varied as the blasphemy exorcists use to execute sins. Choose from a list of 6 Handler Candidates and gain a small but significant benefit based on their origin inside CAIN.
  • Mundane Jobs. The responsibilities of an exorcist go beyond the simple execution of sins. Choose an extra kit from a list of 8 options and be ready to work a normal everyday job between hunts.
  • Awareness and Fallout. A brand new mechanic to measure the collateral damage done by the exorcists or the sins they fight. Work to clean your own mess or deal with the consequences of getting too much attention.
  • Off-hours. A downtime system focused on giving weight to player choice. Explore the time between each hunt and pursue your own goals.

I'm curious, this game has been out for a while, why is it listed as new? Is there a way to republish games on here?

I'm sorry to say that I have no idea why I'm there, maybe because I pushed an update recently? Your guess is as good as mine.

question, will you introduce methods and sugestions to change a normal campain of Cain into a Division X campain in the midle of the game? as if "as a reward, you all will go into X for a extended period for field work while the local team go back"

(1 edit)

That would depend a lot on the specific campaign you want to transition out of, but I can think of a way to help. Keep an eye out.

I'm really exited to see what this turns into, not to say it doesn't have some damn good quality work already! Great job!

This is wonderful, as someone that is a fan of BitD ive been wanting a way to better flesh out CAIN and how its Exorcists exist outside the hunt and this is perfect for that.

one note that may bring other ideas, or just to help clean up the pdf, "regions" are mentioned as well as the fact that different regions can have separate awareness levels, but as far as I have read, there is no mechanical or narrative statement of what a region is, do you have plans to flesh that out? if not id recommend changing the wording around to remove it.

Thanks! And about "regions", you are right. The word was used to imply the region around the division, since with the supplement you are gonna stay stationed in one place for a campaign, but considering there isn't much more than that I will consider removing it from future versions.
